Formats and requirements per platform

Updated 2026-10-07

In two lines: each social network has its own formats, sizes and content types. Use this guide when planning your posts so the content meets the specifications of each platform.

Facebook

Supports text, image (recommended 1200x630 px), video, carousels, reels and stories. Posts go out through the Facebook page linked to the account.

Instagram

Supports feed (square image 1080x1080 or vertical 1080x1350), reels (vertical video 1080x1920), stories (vertical image or video, up to 10 per post) and carousels (up to 10 images). It requires an Instagram Business account linked to Facebook.

LinkedIn

Publishes on company pages —LinkedIn Page in the composer— and on personal profiles —LinkedIn Profile—. A post can carry text only, one image, several images or one video. Several images go out together in a single LinkedIn post, in the order of the post's grid: up to 20, in Feed / Post or in Carousel (a format only pages have). If the same carousel also goes to Instagram or Facebook, their limit applies: 10. For images, the composer recommends square (1:1); horizontal ones, like 1200x627 px, are accepted too.

A video goes out on its own: one per post, with no other files. MB Suite uploads it to LinkedIn and publishes the post when LinkedIn finishes processing it. If LinkedIn takes a while, the post stays in Publishing for a few minutes and goes out on its own. LinkedIn creates the video's thumbnail itself, so a custom cover doesn't apply.

LinkedIn doesn't publish a video together with other files, or more than 20 images in one post. If you build a post like that, the composer flags it as an error and won't let you schedule it until you leave the video on its own —in a separate post, if you also want the images— or remove the extra images. And if a post like that reaches its publishing time anyway, it fails with the reason: it never goes out trimmed.

TikTok

Supports vertical videos (1080x1920), from 3 seconds to 10 minutes long. Static images are not supported natively.

The exact requirements live in the composer

The sizes above are the ones worth designing for. The exact limits —accepted formats, maximum weight, duration range, aspect ratio, minimum resolution— follow each network's own rules and change when the platform changes them, so this guide doesn't keep a copy: MB Suite shows them next to your file, for the platforms and the format you picked, while you build the post. Lines like Formats: with the accepted extensions, Duration: with the allowed range, Recommended aspect: with the ratio, and the maximum weight per file type.

That check isn't just informative. If a file breaks a hard requirement, the composer flags it as an error —There are media errors blocking publishing— and won't let you schedule. Amber warnings —an image that isn't 9:16 and could get cropped— do let you carry on.

A post that reached Scheduled had already passed that check. If it fails at publishing time anyway and the notice says the file doesn't meet the requirements, don't start by re-exporting the video: read the line right under the reason, the one carrying the network's own message. A file the platform simply couldn't download reads very differently from one it rejected — see My post wasn't published or my account got disconnected.

Stories with several images or videos

A post in Story format takes several files: each one is published as its own story, and they go out one after another, in the same order you see them in the post's grid. That's how you schedule a run of stories —a four-frame sequence, for example— without uploading them one by one on the day they go live. It works on Instagram and on Facebook, and you can mix images and videos in the same sequence.

You decide the order: each file in the grid shows its number and, on hover, the arrows to move it forward or back. When there's more than one, a notice appears under the grid — 3 stories will be published in this order, one after another, with the real number of files — so you confirm the sequence before scheduling. The cap is 10 stories per post: if you load more, the composer flags it as an error and won't let you schedule until you remove the extra ones.

When the sequence finishes, the post tells you how many went out: in the list view the network icon carries the detail 4 stories published on Instagram, and opening the post you see Published · 4 stories. If one fails midway, the post lands on Partial with the amber detail 1 of 4 stories published — how to get the missing ones out is in My post wasn't published or my account got disconnected.

A story doesn't leave a link you can open later from MB Suite: stories expire after 24 hours and have no stable permalink. To watch them, go to Instagram or to your Facebook page.

If you cancel the publication once the sequence already started, the stories that went out stay published on the account: Meta doesn't allow deleting them from MB Suite. We tell you how many are already live when you cancel; if you need to take them down, do it from the Instagram app or from Meta Business Suite.

Video cover

On video posts you can also define the cover: a frame from the video or your own image, in vertical 9:16. Instagram Reels and TikTok accept both, Facebook only an image, and Stories, LinkedIn and Google Business don't support a custom cover. Details in Choose the cover of your video.

If you publish the same content on several networks, design for the most demanding one —vertical 9:16 (1080x1920)— and crop for the rest. When you choose several platforms for a post, MB Suite warns you if the format isn't compatible with any of them.
